In 2016 at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, a track focused variant of Mercedes-AMG’s already very potent new sports car (the AMG GT) was released….the AMG GT R. Building on the huge success of the model line, Mercedes-AMG were keen to develop a more track orientated car which really took the fight to Porsche and their GT3 product offering.
Utilising the sensational M178 twin turbo V8 AMG engine tuned to 577bhp, a large focus of development for the GT R actually went into its chassis where adaptive coil-over dampers were installed along with active underbody fairing, a 9-mode AMG Traction Control System and active rear wheel steer system (a first for an AMG model).
In conjunction with an array of lightweight carbon fibre components and revised aero, the net result was a car that looked as good as it went and momentarily devoured the Green Hell lap record for a rear wheel drive sports car of 7:10.9. That however was just the start; Merc-AMG knew they could make the car faster and were keen to prove it……enter the GT R Pro.
The GT R Pro took the fight with Porsche to the next level. Again maintaining an emphasis on the cars handling characteristics, the Pro benefited from an array of chassis upgrades including manually adjustable coil overs with pre-load, rebound and compression settings, an adjustable carbon fibre front anti-roll bar, Track Pack (featuring roll cage & harnesses) and ceramic brakes fitted as standard. In addition, further aero enhancements were made to the car including a larger front splitter and dive planes as well as a gurney flap on the rear spoiler.
The net result of all of this…a 6 second improvement in the car’s lap time around the infamous Nurburgring of 7:04.6 which in the process managed to take the crown away from the 991.2 GT3 RS (non WP) which lapped in a time of 7:05.4.

INVESTMENT THESIS
First registered in November 2019, this Designo Diamond White over Black Nappa Leather GT R Pro is an exquisite example of the legendary Mercedes-AMG track focused sports car. Having covered 3,100 miles with one meticulous owner, the car also benefits from full PPF from new.
The GT R Pro offered an even more track orientated proposition over the already very capable GT R. The net result was an extremely capable road car with tumultuous on track capabilities highlighted in its ability to lap the Nurburgring 6 seconds faster than its predecessor.
Limited to 750 examples globally of which it is believed around 55 units were produced for the UK market, this GT R Pro offers a superb opportunity to purchase one of Mercedes AMG’s finest road cars to date.
